RICHMOND, Va. (10-20-02) - William Witt Sensei, Seventh Dan, visited Richmond for a two-day seminar Oct. 19-20.
It was Witt Sensei's eighth visit to Richmond, and he took home with him his eighth Jefferson Cup, the traditional gift from Bryan Park Aikido.
The seminar was held at the Montpelier Center in Hanover County, some 20 miles north of Richmond.
Witt Sensei reviewed variations of morote dori kokyuho, ryo kata dori and kaeshi waza techniques during the morning session on Saturday and continued with ushiro ryotedore, ushiro ryo kata dori and ushiro eri dori during the afternoon session.
During the 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. session on Sunday, Witt reviewed bokken suburi and awase and jo suburi and jo nage.
Witt began his aikido training at Hombu Dojo in 1967 under O'Sensei and soon added Sunday training at the Hombu Dojo with Morihiro Saito. Witt trained with Saito Sensei extensively in the late 60s and early 70s in Iwama and opened the door for thousands of aikidoists from the U.S. and other countries to visit Iwama in later years.
He is working on a project to convert some early Saito film to dvd.
Witt is head of the Takemusu Aikido Association, which is affiliated directly with Iwama and the Hombu Dojo.
